The Kawartha Autumn Studio Tour (KAST) is a signature initiative of the Art Gallery of Peterborough and has been presented by the Gallery since 1984. As one of the longest-running studio tours in Canada, it has become a much-anticipated cultural experience in the region. Wind down the roads of city neighbourhoods or down scenic country roads as you meet the makers and tap into the incredible talent of the Peterborough Region.

Just 90 minutes northeast of Toronto, and three hours from our nation's capital in Ottawa, it is an easy and scenic drive to start exploring stops along the Kawartha Autumn Studio Tour.

Parking

This is a self-drive tour, so parking will be different at the various studio locations. Please observe the parking signage and rules, and be courteous to artists' neighbours. If you're stopping at the Art Gallery of Peterborough, there is a municipal lot adjacent to the gallery (accessible from George Street and from Crescent Street).

For studios in the City of Peterborough, you could also enjoy the tour by bike - a delightful way to slow down and take in the spectacular colours.

What is the Kawartha Autumn Studio Tour?

The Kawartha Autumn Studio Tour is a self-guided art tour held annually in September. This annual tradition gives visitors and local an opportunity to explore artists’ studios throughout Peterborough and The Kawarthas. It’s a chance to meet artists, see where they create, and purchase original works directly.

When does the tour take place?

This free, self-guided tour runs annually in late September.The 2026 tour takes place September 26 & 27 from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm. This free, self-guided event allows visitors to plan their own route and explore at their own pace. 

Is there an admission fee?

Nope! This is a free event. Visitors are welcome to explore all participating studios at no cost.

Where does the tour happen?

Studios are located throughout Peterborough and The Kawarthas, including downtown, suburban streets, rural areas, lakeside communities, and scenic countryside routes. 

How do I find the studios?

You can:

  • Download the Toureka app or view the official tour map online

  • Pick up a printed map at the Peterborough Visitor Centre at the Lift Lock, the Art Gallery of Peterborough

  • Follow signage posted along roads during the tour weekend

Do I need to visit studios in a specific order?

This is a self-guided tour. You can visit as many studios as you like, in any order, at your own pace.

You can also pick up your KAST Passport at the Art Gallery of Peterborough and participating artist studios during KAST weekend and be entered to win a prize valued at over $100 from the AGP Gallery Shop.

What kind of art will I see?

The tour features a wide range of artistic mediums, including:

  • Painting (oil, acrylic, watercolour)

  • Pottery and ceramics

  • Sculpture

  • Jewelry

  • Glasswork

  • Textiles and fibre arts

  • Woodworking and mixed media

Can I buy artwork during the tour?

Yes. Most studios offer artwork for sale, and purchasing directly from artists is encouraged. Payment methods vary by studio, so it’s a good idea to bring cash as well as debit/credit.

Is the tour family-friendly?

Yes! The tour is suitable for all ages. It can be a great opportunity to introduce children to art and creativity while enjoying a scenic drive.

What should I bring?

  • A copy of the tour map (digital or printed)

  • Comfortable walking shoes

  • Reusable water bottle or coffee mug

  • Cash and/or cards for purchases

  • A reusable bag or protective wrap for artwork

  • A friend - these experiences are best when shared!

Can I meet the artists?

Yes! And this is where the magic happens. This is your chance to meet artists in their studios, learn about their process, and hear the stories behind their work.

Are washrooms available?

Washroom access is not guaranteed at every studio. It’s a good idea to plan stops at restaurants, cafés, or public facilities along your route.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The tour runs rain or shine. Be prepared for changing autumn weather and plan your route accordingly.

Are there places to eat along the way?

So many! There are delicious experiences around every corner. Sip a latte, enjoy a craft beer, have a lunch, have a butter tart!  Planning a few food stops can turn your tour into a delicious full-day experience.

Can I do the tour in one day?

Of course! You can choose to explore just a studio or two for an afternoon, or build out a full weekend of traversing. Your tour - your way.

Is there parking at the studios?

Yes, most studios provide on-site or nearby parking. Follow posted signs and be mindful of private property and rural road safety.
